What bentocut is

bentocut is a video editor that runs inside your web browser, provided by the operator of bentocut. There is no account to create and nothing to install. The editing, the effects and the export all happen on your own machine; our part is serving you the application.

What stays free

The editor and every effect in it are free, and so is exporting your work at any resolution, without a watermark, without a length limit and without a card. That is a commitment rather than an introductory offer.

Paid features may be added later — the pricing on the home page describes removing ads, and capabilities that cost real money to run would be charged for. Anything paid will be something new. We will not put a feature the free editor already had behind a price.

Your work is yours

You keep every right in the footage you import and the videos you make. We claim no licence over any of it, and we could not use it if we wanted to: your media stays in your browser and never reaches us. The privacy policy sets out exactly where it goes.

Whether you have the right to use a particular piece of footage, music or font in the first place is between you and whoever owns it. The editor does not check, and a tool being free to use is not a licence to the material you put through it.

Browser storage is not a backup

This is the clause most likely to affect you, so it is not at the bottom. Your projects and media live in storage that belongs to your browser, and a browser is allowed to delete that storage — when the disk runs short, when you clear site data, when a privacy setting expires it, or when you use a private window. It can happen without warning and we cannot recover it, because we never had a copy.

• Export anything you would be upset to lose, and keep the file somewhere you control.
• Treat a project open in a browser as work in progress, not as an archive.
• Uninstalling the browser, or resetting the machine, takes the projects with it.

The software is provided as it is

bentocut is offered without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not promise it will be available without interruption, or that it will be free of faults.

Some concrete forms that takes, since a general disclaimer tells you nothing useful: which video formats open and which can be encoded depends on your browser, your operating system and your hardware, so two machines will not always agree; a long export can fail, and the tab has to stay open while it runs; and Firefox and Safari support less than Chrome does. Where the product knows one of these applies to you, it tries to say so in place rather than leaving you to find out.

Using it reasonably

Do not use bentocut to:

• produce material that is illegal where you are, or that exists to harass or defraud somebody;
• attack the service or the people using it — that includes attempting to disrupt it, probing it for weaknesses without permission, or scraping it at a volume that degrades it for others;
• misrepresent it as your own product, or strip it into another service and sell that.

Because there is no account, there is nothing for us to suspend. This section exists so the boundary is stated, and so that blocking abusive traffic is not a surprise.

Things we do not control

Choosing a Google font in the editor downloads it from Google, and your use of that font is subject to its own licence and to Google’s terms. Fonts, footage and audio you bring from elsewhere carry whatever conditions came with them.

Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, the operator of bentocut is not liable for lost work, lost profits, lost data, or any indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of bentocut. This is software given away for nothing and run entirely on your own machine, and the previous sections say plainly what you should do to protect work that matters.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and if you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.

Changes

The product changes, and these terms will change with it. The date at the top moves when they do. Continuing to use bentocut after that is how you accept the new version — and the commitment about what stays free is the one part not intended to move.

Law

These terms are governed by the law of the operator's country of registration, and its courts have jurisdiction over any dispute — without depriving you of the protection of any mandatory law where you live.
